Sliding door installation – step-by-step installation instructions. Installing sliding interior doors is a solution that allows you to free up additional space in the room. The structure is installed after leveling the wall surfaces and laying the finished floors.

In addition, before installing sliding doors, you should check the verticality of the doorway and determine in which direction the door leaf should roll back, freeing up the necessary space on the corresponding side.

If you plan to install two products, you need to allocate free space for the door leaves to move on both sides of the opening. After carrying out the preparatory activities, you can proceed to installing sliding interior doors. The entire process is divided into several stages.

Installation of the sliding door beam

The door leaf is pressed tightly against the doorway, taking into account the width of the guide and 5 mm of additional clearance. At the appropriate level, mark the boundary of the future placement of the beam. Depending on whether the door leaf will open to the right or left, the beam is positioned so that its middle is above the right or left side of the frame, respectively, and a mark is made again. Then, using a level, a horizontal line is built between the selected points. Then, the beam is directly installed.

Holes are drilled in the beam, it is securely attached to the wall with anchors. Installation of the guide of a sliding interior door. There are several options for installing guides for sliding doors. The simplest, fastest and, accordingly, most common method is fastening to the upper beam. The rail is simply screwed to the lower surface of the beam with self-tapping screws. If desired, you can make the fastening in advance, before installing the beam. Rollers are inserted into the fixed rail and the quality of their sliding is checked by running them along the groove “idle”.

The installation of the lower guide of the interior door can be done in 3 ways:

cut a groove in the floor covering and install a rail for the rollers there;
fix the guide directly to the floor covering and close it with a threshold;
mount the rail on the end of the lower leaf, having prepared a groove in the floor in advance.

The third option is used if the lower rollers are replaced by a guide knife that holds the door leaf. This element is securely attached to the floor covering.

How to assemble sliding doors?

Directly assembling a sliding door is also divided into several stages. Installing the rollers. The rollers are installed either with an indent from the end of the door by approximately 1/6 of its width, or directly on the edge. The exact option depends on the door model and is indicated in the manufacturer’s instructions. The installation locations of the rollers are marked with a pencil. You can immediately drill holes for fastening the hardware.

Installing the sliding door plates

Installation of mounting plates is necessary only if the rollers are attached to the edge of the door leaf. In such models of sliding doors, it is the plates that form the necessary indent. Self-tapping screws of at least 7 cm in length are used for their fastening. The plates are equipped with threaded supports and side covers, the roller platform is mounted on the thread of the pins.

If the lower part of the sliding interior doors is equipped with a guide blade, a groove should be cut in the end of the door leaf. It is selected approximately 1 cm from the edge of the door, its depth should exceed the thickness of the blade by approximately 2 cm. As a rule, this figure varies within 1-2 cm.

Installation of the interior door leaf. The leaf with mounted rollers is hung on the prepared guides. The door is rolled several times along the rail to check the smoothness and unhindered movement.

Installation of fittings. Installation of fittings is the final stage of installing a sliding interior door. The leaf with rollers is again removed from the guides, a rubber shock absorber is placed in the runners. This part acts as a door limiter.

The places for installing the fittings are marked on the canvas: handles and a lock. Grooves are cut for their installation. They are cut out using a chisel, sometimes a drill. The lock and handles are mounted in the made openings. The door leaf is hung on the guide again.
